Gingerbread House
- ¼ c water
- ½ c butter
- ½ c brown sugar
- ½ c dark molasses
- 3½ c all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp ginger
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
Royal Icing
- 4 tbsp shortening
- ¼ tbsp salt
- 1 tsp peppermint extract
- 3 c powdered sugar
- 5 tbsp warm milk
Gingerbread
Preheat oven to 375℉ (190℃)
Boil water and pour over butter in a bowl.
¼ c water, ½ c butter
Mix in brown sugar and molasses.
½ c brown sugar, ½ c dark molasses
Sift together dry ingredients.
3½ c all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp ginger, ½ tsp nutmeg, ¼ tsp ground cloves
Mix dry ingredients with the molasses mixture.
Chill the dough.
Roll out dough to ¼" thickness and cut into desired shapes.
Bake on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper for 12-14 minutes.
Royal Icing
Blend all ingredients and store the mixture in an air-tight container.
